“Joe Young is one of the most talented and innovative sound artists of our generation.” Professor Lizbeth Goodman, SMARTlab, UCD.”
My background is in performance and composition for live theatre. Since completing the MA Design by Independent Project in 2005 at University of Brighton, and creating my first sound installation The Family Album, I have subsequently developed a body of sound and performance works for galleries, public art commissions, recorded media and the internet.
As an artist, I’ve performed nationally and internationally at Tate Modern, Whitechapel Gallery, Conflux festival (USA), Fuse Medway festival, Grey Area, Blank Gallery and The Basement in Brighton; and on tour with Curious in The moment I saw you I knew I could love you. I have guest lectured for Edge Hill University, E15 Acting School at the University of Essex, Rose Bruford College, University of Sussex and University of Brighton on the MA Digital Media Arts. My sound pieces have been published or broadcast by BBC Radio 4, Public Record, Furthernoise, One Minute of Silence, Radio Papesse and Resonance FM.
